New café, Table on the Terrace, to open at Lot Fourteen

Posted January 31, 2025

A fresh destination for coffee lovers on North Terrace will open on 3 February at Lot Fourteen, as the new café takes up residence in heritage building Sheridan Kiosk.

Table on the Terrace will offer a vibrant blend of artisanal coffee and a classic café menu alongside elevated seasonal produce to fuel the innovation district, which is home of global tech companies Amazon Web Services and Salesforce, to world-renowned research institutions.

The licenced venue boasts premium street-frontage and will capitalise on indoor space, outdoor alfresco seating and adjacent lawns.

Table on the Terrace will partner with Lot Fourteen scale-up, MyVenue, offering technology to streamline food and beverage service via its award-winning point-of-sale system.

Lot Fourteen State Project Lead Diane Dixon said the district is eagerly anticipating the district’s newest offering.

“As the metaphorical ‘engine room’ of the district, the new café will be a central hub to share ideas and collaborate, while providing a gateway to the district welcoming visitors.

“With more than 160 businesses at Lot Fourteen, we are excited to welcome Table on the Terrace as the go-to spot for innovators to fuel-up, as they help drive the economy.”

Table on the Terrace is owned and operated by Port Noarlunga’s The Flour Store owners Karen Slabbert and Shane Abbott and they bring over 50 years of combined experience in the hospitality industry to Adelaide’s East End.

“My background as a geo-spatial data analyst and business owner means that Lot Fourteen has been firmly on my radar from its inception. I’m passionate about Lot Fourteen and its vision,” says Slabbert.

“Our mission is to showcase the best of South Australian produce, delivering high-quality, locally-sourced food and beverages reflecting the region’s rich culinary heritage.

“We are committed to providing exceptional service through a well-trained team of baristas and front-of-house staff, ensuring that every customer experiences the perfect blend of hospitality and innovation.”

Table on the Terrace aims to prioritise sustainability, community engagement, and local sourcing for all its ingredients, ensuring a positive impact on both the environment and the local economy.

“Lot Fourteen is a hub of innovation and creativity, and we’re thrilled to be part of this growing community,” says Abbott.

“We look forward to serving the diverse group of visitors, researchers and workers and hope to make Table on the Terrace a true neighbourhood favourite.

“We’re excited to provide a welcoming space where people can enjoy quality coffee and food, and an opportunity to connect with the community.”

Opening its doors from 7am – 4pm, Monday to Friday to start, the café will also have the opportunity to provide catering annually for the 700 events, workshops, major festivals and community activities at Lot Fourteen.

The opening of the café falls on Sheridan Kiosk’s one-hundred-year anniversary from its opening in 1925, originally used by the Women’s Auxiliary, with an important feature to offer light refreshments to the public, convalescent patients and their visitors.
