Today, new organisation, the Australasian Space Innovation Institute (ASII) was unveiled, established as an independent, not-for-profit innovation engine building on the success of the SmartSat CRC, based at Lot Fourteen.
ASII will act as a trusted, neutral connector with a commercial approach, to translate world-class research into space-enabled solutions for the economy, society and national security and linking end users with industry and universities to accelerate the path from research to impact.
Interim CEO, Professor Andy Koronios, said of the new organisation, “ASII is about making space matter for people on the ground. Our mission is practical impact, sovereign capability and the public good.”
ASII will be dedicated to scaling the impact of space innovation nationally and across the Indo-Pacific.
The organisation is building satellites that will enhance digital infrastructure to transform agriculture, mining, defence, climate resilience, and community safety, all with the ultimate goal of serving the public good and advancing the national interest.
ASII is underpinned by collaboration between research institutions, industry, and government both locally and globally. By promoting regional leadership opportunities, ASII will strengthen Australia’s partnerships with New Zealand and the Indo-Pacific, reducing reliance on foreign services for critical space infrastructure.
